Vulvoplasty
Vulvoplasty, also known as zero-depth vaginoplasty, is a gender-affirming surgery that constructs a vulva from penile and scrotal tissue. It is, it creates the external genitalia like the labia, clitoris, and a shallow vaginal opening for aesthetic purposes, but it does not create a vaginal canal for penetration. This procedure is an option for individuals, often those assigned male at birth, who desire to align their external genitalia with their gender identity.
The aspects of vulvoplasty are
➔Construction: Penile and scrotal tissue are used to create the labia majora and minora.
➔Clitoris: A part of the glans is used to form a sensitive, functional clitoris.
➔Urethra: The urethra is shortened and redirected to its proper position above the newly formed vaginal opening.
➔Orchiectomy: The testes are typically removed if they have not been previously, and the scrotal skin is used to create the outer labia.
