Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) is a surgical approach that uses smaller incisions to treat spinal conditions. It involves making tiny incisions, and using tubular retractors, endoscopes, with real-time imaging to guide the operation.

  • Small incision:The surgeon makes small cuts in the skin to access the spine.
  • Access and visualization: A tubular retractor is inserted through the incision to gently spread the muscles, creating a tunnel to the spine. An endoscope is then used to see inside the surgical site.
  • Instruments: Surgeons use long, specialized instruments that are guided through the retractor to perform the necessary procedures, such as decompressions, fusions, or screw placements.

Benefits of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Reduced pain: Minimal damage to muscles and tissues thereby less post-operative pain.

➔Faster recovery: Faster return to daily activities.

➔Less scarring: The smaller incisions make scarring less visible.
