Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery:
Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) is a surgical approach that uses smaller incisions to treat spinal conditions. It involves making tiny incisions, and using tubular retractors, endoscopes, with real-time imaging to guide the operation.
- Small incision:The surgeon makes small cuts in the skin to access the spine.
- Access and visualization: A tubular retractor is inserted through the incision to gently spread the muscles, creating a tunnel to the spine. An endoscope is then used to see inside the surgical site.
- Instruments:Surgeons use long, specialized instruments that are guided through the retractor to perform the necessary procedures, such as decompressions, fusions, or screw placements.
- Reduced pain: Minimal damage to muscles and tissues thereby less post-operative pain.
- Faster recovery: Faster return to daily activities.
- Less scarring: The smaller incisions make scarring less visible.
