Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

In Intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedure, sperm is placed directly into a woman’s uterus to coincide with the ovulation.

This process increases the chances of sperm reaching an egg by bypassing the cervix and shortening the travel distance. IUI can be done with or without fertility drugs and is a common, less invasive, and more affordable option than treatments like IVF.

The process involves

➔Medication

Oral medications the first step, followed by injectables if needed. This medication stimulates the hormones that trigger the development of eggs.

➔Monitoring

Ultrasounds and blood tests help track the growth of the follicles in the ovaries.

➔Trigger shot

On maturity of the follicle, a human chorionic gonadotropin injection is often given to trigger the final maturation and release of the egg(s).

➔Timing

Intercourse or an IUI is then timed around the time of ovulation to increase the chances of conception.

How the procedure works

A sperm sample from a donor is “washed” in a lab whereby, concentrate the highest quality and most active sperm and to remove seminal fluid.

The procedure coincides with the release of an egg from the ovary. This is monitored naturally or is stimulated with fertility drugs.

The processed sperm is directly inserted into the uterus with the help of a catheter, The process is quick and painless.

Patients typically return to their normal activities after a few minutes of rest.

This procedure is ideal for couples with fertility issues like unexplained infertility, low sperm count, or mild endometriosis and Individuals with a hostile cervical condition or cervical scarring.
