Cystoscopy

A cystoscopy is a medical procedure where a thin, lighted tube called a cystoscope is inserted through the urethra into the bladder to examine the lining of the urethra and bladder. This is done to diagnose and sometimes treat conditions like bladder cancer, infections, stones, or structural abnormalities.

Objectives of Cystoscopy are

➔To diagnose the cause of symptoms like blood in the urine, frequent urination, or pain during urination.

➔To check for and diagnose bladder cancer or other growths.

➔To diagnose bladder infections or bladder stones.

➔To check for and diagnose structural abnormalities or blockages.

➔If an abnormality is seen, the doctor may take a small tissue sample (biopsy) through the cystoscope for further testing.
