Polyp of Uterus
Polyp of the uterus also known as endometrial polyp, are finger-like growths originating from the endometrium, which is the lining of the uterus, and are attached to the uterine wall by stem or a broad base. They vary in sizes from the size of a sesame seed, but can also be large that could fill the uterine cavity.
Although it is a benign overgrowth of tissue and is often asymptomatic and considered harmless, it can cause abnormal vaginal bleeding, irregular periods, heavy menstruation, or infertility, and carry a small risk of malignant transformation. They can be removed by hysteroscopy procedure called a polypectomy.
